Embrace the future of all-electric propulsion with E-GES

VIKING has integrated cutting-edge battery technology with industry-leading safety concepts to deliver all-electric propulsion for SOLAS-compliant lifeboats.

The E-GES free-fall lifeboats, powered by advanced battery technology, deliver exceptional performance and significantly reduce maintenance costs. The E-GES lifeboats save weight and lower maintenance efforts, making them a cost-effective solution for maritime safety needs.

With increased safety during all evacuation phases, including higher acceleration and top speed, the E-GES free-fall lifeboat also provides a higher level of personnel comfort at sea, featuring a climate-controlled environment and reduced noise and vibration.

The benefits of E-GES free-fall lifeboats

  • Enhanced safety during evacuation including higher sprint speed
  • Superior onboard comfort at sea with climate control
  • Advanced battery technology  with a triple barrier against thermal propagation
  • Assured longevity of the system giving guaranteed availability in long-term operation
  • Significant long-term cost savings due to reduced maintenance requirements
  • Increased safety levels and operation time in sour gas environments
  • Remote monitoring capabilities from the bridge and onshore locations
  • Remote operation of the driveline, allowing the electric motor to be started, stopped, and monitored without personnel entering the lifeboat
  • Fully electrified solution with zero emissions and zero risk of fluid spills

Marinised technology

Initially designed as diesel-powered boats, VIKING has kept the key physical features while introducing an electrical driveline with the same weight and location.

Each E-GES boat typically runs on three battery packages, stored in a dedicated battery room equipped with fire monitoring, fire extinguishing, and gas extraction systems.

These battery packages are divided into fifteen modules, each containing twelve cells, providing three layers of safety within the protected battery compartment.

Smart monitoring and extended maintenance intervals

VIKING’s E-GES lifeboats offer remote monitoring and operation through integrated smart systems that provide essential reporting of critical systems. Each E-GES lifeboat features a self-diagnostic PLC system that alerts shore-based maintenance teams to any changes in temperature, battery charge, or other variables which could affect lifeboat readiness. This allows for remote corrections or timely interventions, ensuring the lifeboats are always ready for use.
